I couldn’t agree more about the value of having a creative outlet for its own sake. I went a few years without having one, and wondered why my life got so much worse? 😅
FWIW, I’m obsessed with your cookbook recs! And as someone who learned how to use Figma earlier this year and now aspires to be A Person Who Attends Config: have a *fabulous* time.
i fell in love with photography a few months ago and don’t regret it at all! i don’t go anywhere without my camera now and it makes me so ridiculously happy - so yes, absolutely, take a ton of pictures and create a life you love around it :)
I think doing something simply to relieve the creative itch is completely valid - at least, I selfishly hope so. I've been writing and publishing for years with few readers, and I waffle between "what's the point" and feeling proud of myself for carrying on anyway. Maybe someday it'll all come together. Maybe it won't. Either way, I guess I'll keep writing.
If it makes you feel better, I feel like I'm constantly writing and editing my letters... and rarely feel good about them even by the time I send them. I usually intend to post mid-week and then Friday and then Saturday and then it's Sunday and I have an appointment at 11:30 a.m. and literally force myself to hit send as I'm calling the Uber (today)! And even after reading it over and over, I found a typo as soon as I hit send. 100% of the time, every time. lol
Beautiful stuff - of course. Bummer challenge when the things that bring joy don’t also bring the trappings of success (as defined by social media, capitalism, judgment of acquaintances, blah blah). If joy is the ultimate goal, why stress about the spiral? The Hamptons are overrated (spoken like someone who would take a Hamptons home in a heartbeat 😉).

Ain’t that the truth about the creative outlet! Just have to force yourself to carve out time. I will definitely report back on how config is!
